Support
The quickest way: in FaiSnap, choose Help → Report a Problem (or Send Feedback). You can add a screenshot, checked for sensitive text first, and the reply shows in the app under Help → My Support Requests, with a notification when it comes. Or email support@faisnap.nscreed.com.
Getting started
Installing
Open FaiSnap.dmg and drag FaiSnap to Applications, then open it from there. FaiSnap is signed and notarized by Apple, so macOS opens it without a warning. It keeps itself up to date: it checks once a day and asks before installing.
Screen access
macOS asks every app for permission before it can take screenshots. In System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording, turn on FaiSnap, then choose Quit & Reopen if macOS asks. The Welcome guide walks you through it.
Shortcuts
| Shortcut | Does |
|---|---|
⌃⇧2 | Capture: drag an area, or pick from the bar at the bottom of the screen (a window, a whole display, a scrolling page, text, a size, a timer) |
⌃⇧3 | Capture a window |
Only these two come set, so FaiSnap doesn't take keys other apps use. Give any other capture a shortcut in FaiSnap Settings → Shortcuts. To capture with ⌘⇧4 as in macOS, turn off macOS's own “Save picture of selected area as a file” (System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts → Screenshots), then choose Use ⌘⇧4 in FaiSnap's Settings → Shortcuts.
Common questions
How do I capture a window, the whole screen or a long page?
Press ⌃⇧2 (or choose Capture in the menu bar) and use the bar along the bottom of the screen: Window, Screen, Scrolling or Text. Space also switches between an area and a window. For a long page, drag over the part that scrolls, then scroll it and click Done.
Can I capture an exact size or ratio?
Yes. In the capture bar, Size offers ratios such as 16:9 and sizes in pixels such as 1280 × 720, or one of your own. A ratio is kept while you drag; a size puts up a frame you move into place before pressing Return. Last Area brings back the area you captured last.
Can I wait a few seconds before the capture?
Choose 3, 5 or 10 seconds under Timer in the capture bar. Pick the area or window, then open a menu or hover over something; the capture is taken when the countdown ends. Esc cancels it.
Do I need an account?
No. Without one, captures stay on your Mac; sharing a link uploads only that capture. Sign in with Google to back up everything with its versions.
FaiSnap warned me about sensitive text. What was found?
Hover the warning to see what was found (partly hidden), then click Redact to cover it, or share it as it is. The check runs on your Mac; you can turn it off in Settings → Privacy.
Can I take back a link?
Yes. In the Library, select the capture and revoke the link under Share Links. Password links and links with an expiry stop working on their own too.
I edited a capture after sharing it. What do people see?
Links show the latest version by default, so they see your edits once you save. Choose "Only vN, as it is now" under Shows when creating a link to keep it fixed.
Security
Found a security problem? Email support@faisnap.nscreed.com with "FaiSnap security" in the subject, and please don't share it publicly until it's fixed. You'll get a reply within a few days.
Deleting your data
- A capture on your Mac: select it in the Library and delete it.
- A capture in the cloud: in the Library choose Delete Cloud Copy, or delete it from your Mac and the cloud.
- Your whole account: email support@faisnap.nscreed.com from the address you sign in with. We delete your account and everything in FaiSnap Cloud within 30 days and confirm by email. Captures on your Mac stay until you delete them or FaiSnap.
